The Quarantini

Oh, hey there! Take a seat. Need a drink? I know I do! (Laughs hysterically into the void.) Let me whip up a little something for us.

We need the tonic of wildness... Henry David Thoreau

There's no way I'm the only person who has invented a new cocktail, based on whatever randomness can be found in one's pantry/fridge during the Quar. Can we call it that? R. Eric Thomas calls it that, and if it's good enough for him, it's definitely good enough for me. Plus it makes something awful sound a little cutesy, and therefore not as terrifying.

Anyway, I made a new cocktail. It's really yummy! I'm calling it the Quarantini because that's the punniest thing I CAN call it, not because it bears any resemblance to a martini (it doesn't). In fact, I dub all makeshift cocktails, during this particular phase of our end times, Quarantinis. And I'd love to hear about yours.

My Quarantini:

  • 1.5 oz Vodka (the larger side of the cocktail jigger)

  • Roughly 3 oz Pomegranite juice

  • 1 teaspoon of sweetened key-lime juice

  • Fill with Lime LaCroix

There is a second recipe, for after I opened the fridge door and the sweetened lime juice came tumbling out, leaving a fantastic mess of sticky sweetness and broken glass all over my kitchen floor. How timely! How apt! How on-theme, contents-of-my-fridge! But I prevail.

My Quarantini take two:

  • 1.5 oz Vodka

  • Roughly 3 oz Pomegranite juice

  • Fill with Gingerale

Not quite as sophisticated, but still yummy.

I reached out on Facebook to see if anyone else had turned home-alone-mixologist, and I was not disappointed. My friend Michelle's Quarantini consisits of:

  • Tequila

  • Pom Juice

  • Lime Twist Topo Chico

  • Fresh Lime

It would appear great minds think (and drink) alike!

And she sent me this shot. Look at this fancy tequila!

Friend Leslie did something a little different:

  • 2 parts Milam & Greene bourbon

  • 1 part lemon juice

  • 1 part Ancho Reyes

  • Simple syrup to taste

Parts!! Leslie is serious about her at-home mixology.
