Bracelet Deal!

Jewelry seems to be the most popular gift item for me. I'm not complaining; I'm just noticing that friends and family seem to celebrate my existence, my motherhood and the birth of Jesus with earrings and bracelets. I've known Vim since we were 12, and I can count on one hand the number of gifts she has given me that have NOT been a jewelery piece. In fact, when we were in high school our thing was big, dramatic earrings. Or maybe I should say, BIG, DRAMATIC earrings. After going through my jewelry box a couple of years ago I found some high school era earrings that I was still hanging on to. I don't know why I still had these, but I was so car-accident fascinated that I took a photo:

I have a clear memory of being completely delighted with the rainbow fish earrings and thinking, "these will go with everything!!!" The Christmas earrings were worn with matching sweaters from Casual Corner. As for the Guatemalan dolls, well, I really don't have a good explanation for those. Except that I had a matching belt, oh yes, I did. Shudder.

Shopping for a friend's birthday used to be an all day event. My mom would drop me off at the mall, and I would wander from store to kiosk, taking only a quick break for an eggroll and Diet Coke, until I found the perfect necklace or pair of earrings. Now, I sit down in front of my computer and peruse Etsy.com. Apparently Vim is doing the same because this year I received from her the most beautiful bracelets!!!
