Easy Twix Cake: How to Make Your House Smell Like a Candybar

I swear I'm not always baking cakes. It's just that all my family member's birthdays are in the Spring, so it makes for a very dessert-heavy season. For my sister, it was Rainbow Cupcakes, for Mom, the Meyer Lemon Bundt Cake with Vanilla-Lemon Glaze, and now, I present to you: the Twix Cake.

A side effect of making this cake is that it will make your entire house smell like you are living inside a Twix bar. It's heavenly, and it's also (if you're me) really bad for your diet. You're welcome, and I'm sorry.
I made this cake for my husband's birthday. I think he liked it. What do you think?

I also got him flowers, because I am a boss like that.

But now, for the cake! What You'll Need:
Butter Recipe Yellow Cake Mix
Butter
Milk or Buttermilk
Eggs
Caramel Topping (You can find it in the ice cream aisle usually. I used Smuckers Salted Caramel.)
5-6 Twix Bars
Dark Chocolate Fudge Icing
Mini-Chocolate Chips (optional)
Onion Chopper, or Large Knife
Mixer
Directions:

Prepare cake according to the cake mix directions, swapping milk or buttermilk for the water. This will make your cake more moist and buttery. If you don't have a butter recipe cake mix, you can use a regular yellow cake mix and simply swap out a stick of butter for the required amount of oil.
Divide cake batter into two 9" round cake pans and bake according to the time instructions on the box.
Allow to cool for ten minutes and pop cakes out onto a wire rack or cool surface.
When completely cool, place one layer rounded side down.
Mix 1/3 cup caramel topping with fudge icing until you have a thick paste. Or...slather the bottom layer with caramel topping and then sprinkle mini-chocolate chips on top. I used the second method on this cake, but I think it would have made for a richer cake if I had mixed the caramel and frosting instead.
Place second cake layer on top, rounded side up
Frost with fudge icing
Using a large spoon, dribble caramel topping in thin strands across the top of the cake, criss-crossing strands until you reach the desired level of caramel.
Chop up 5-6 Twix bars. (I used a Vidalia Onion Chopper, which made this task a lot easier!) Place chopped up pieces on top of cake.
