Happy Friday, everyone!

Friday Faves makes it sound like it's my regular thing.  I know it's not, but it is Friday, and I have a few new favorite things to share, so I'm going with that.

First of all, photo credits to my Younger Son, who greatly enjoyed playing the role of Real Photographer.  He was cavorting all over the place, telling me to turn this way, no, the other way, and explaining that it's b...

I shouldn't be surprised.

I've been suspecting it for a while.

Still, I'm grappling with the news.

This week I went to see a Physical Therapist because the pain in my hip moves around, but never really goes away.  I told Ariel the Therapist all of this, and I also added what a masseuse told me last month, "Your back is so twisted.  I mean, like, really twisted.  Maybe that's why your hip hurts?"

Ariel scoffed, "...

This month I'm reviewing Educated, a memoir by Tara Westover.   Y'all, this book is intense.

I'm sure many of you have heard of this book, or heard Tara Westover being interviewed on the radio.  But if you haven't, here it is in a blurb:

Tara Westover grew up on a mountain in Idaho.  Her father didn't believe in modern medicine, which is why Tara and most of her siblings were born at home and, thus, have no birt...

So, I don't know how you, the Gentle Reader, spend your Friday nights.  Most Friday nights find me ensconced in my favorite chair, sipping a cocktail or a Barq's diet root beer, making a list for the weekend, watching TV and generally feeling pleased that I'll be sleeping past 6:00 the next morning.

But not this past Friday.  This past Friday night I did something completely different, and I'm going to v...

So, I thought I would once again do a Shopping-Fast for the month of January.  I did NOT, however,  give up desserts this time because I saw no reason to be completely uncivilized.

What to do when one is not spending money?  Visit the library!

Oh!  See that silver travel mug?  I got it at Starbucks (in December!!!) so that I could get FREE hot tea lattes for the entire month of January!  I'm pretty sure my...

Monday was an In-Service day at work, and after training (How to Lovingly Deal with the Difficult Child, Lovingly) my co-workers and I were gabbing about recipes.  Fave Teacher Tanya starts describing how she went to one website for a recipe, "And I had to read through this woman talking, talking, talking about her day, what was in her pantry, what she had made previously, how she was feeling,  blah, blah, bla...

My friend, Jenni, used to say that whatever you do on New Year's Day sets the tone for your whole year.  One New Year's Day, she binge watched 24, and we wondered what this meant for her new year; perhaps she would pack a lot of action into every hour, watch someone named Kim make a lot of questionable choices, and her heart would race the entire time.

But her saying always made me thoughtful about ho...

I cannot take a photo of myself.  Or, to be more precise, I cannot take a good photo of myself that I would put on this blog.  Or send to a friend.  Which increases my dependence upon the good natures of my husband and sons (and sometimes the nonplussed sales associate at the Loft).   Every selfie makes my nose look tremendous or just tremendously wonky.

Oh!  Wouldst that someone could help...

Honestly, you would think it's a recognized holiday, the way I look forward to, celebrate, and go on about having our family photo made.  I can't even tell you why.  In years past when Older and Younger were, well,  Younger and Little-er, there were a lot of threats threatened through a fake smile that they had better act right and fly straight for Ms. Mackenzie, OR ELSE!  But when the photos arrived via email, the...

So, I really enjoy meal times.  And snacks.  Because I'm part Hobbit.  But my absolute favorite is BRUNCH!  Maybe it's because Brunch indicates a lazier day, so no rushing to eat breakfast.  Or maybe it's because I'm actually eating for 2 meals, so I'll enjoy a few more bites of pancake, thank you very much.  And finding a really good Brunch in Houston has proven to be something of a quest (again, like a Hobbit!)....
